Wellness Skills Support

The Canadian Mental Health Association works in partnership with Adult Learning on Lombard to provide mental health supports to students through the Wellness Skills Support (WSS) team. The aim of WSS is to support students in working towards personal goals, improving their mental health, and accessing services, so they can successfully attain employment and/or education. Adult Learning on Lombard is an Adult Learning Centre, operated by the River East Transcona School Division.

Referrals to Adult Learning on Lombard are sent by Employment Income Assistance (EIA) case coordinators, other Adult Learning Programs and Adult Learning Centres. If you are interested in joining the program, please advise your EIA case coordinator. If you do not currently have an EIA case coordinator, call the Adult Leaning on Lombard Program Coordinator at (204) 515-1976 for more information.

Students must meet ALL requirements listed below: 

  • Ability to attend full-time 
  • Adults who are 18 years of age or older 
  • No significant cognitive disabilities that would impede progress 
  • Sufficient English comprehension and communications skills (approximately Canadian Language Benchmark-5 in listening/speaking) 

Adult Learning on Lombard is for persons who demonstrate a need for literacy upgrading and/or support. Recipients of Employment Income Assistance (EIA), Employment Insurance (EI), or those at risk for EIA, are also eligible for the program.  

Adult Learning on Lombard offers classes in English, Math, and Computers. Students are expected to participate in each of these courses. A varied summer program is offered in July and August, based on the needs and interests of the students.  

The Wellness Skills Support team offers both group and one-on-one supports focused on mental health and well-being. Students are expected to participate in these services on a regular basis.  

Students can join the program year-round. Referrals are accepted anytime and can be submitted to the Adult Learning on Lombard Program Coordinator at (204) 515-1976. The Program Coordinator will contact the student to schedule and intake appointment. 

The program is offered at 111 Lombard Avenue, Winnipeg. Students must attend in-person.

The program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, from September to June. It is expected that students participate full-time. A summer program is available in July and August for students who can attend.
Student participation in the program varies, as it is based on their starting level, and their individual goals for employment and/or education.
Yes, as of the 2023-2024 school year, ALOL offers grade 12 credits.
