Caring for a Loved One with Hoarding Challenges (Online)

When

March 4, 2026 to April 1, 2026
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Event Type

Hoarding does not only impact the individual living with it; it also affects family members, friends, and circles of support who are often navigating stress, worry, and difficult decisions. This five-session course is designed for loved ones supporting someone with hoarding challenges and offers a mix of education, reflection, and practical skill-building grounded in a compassionate, harm-reduction approach. Because hoarding is a complex mental health condition tied to shame, trauma, and emotional attachment, common responses such as pressure, ultimatums, or clean-outs often strain relationships and increase distress. This course helps participants understand what is really happening, why these approaches can backfire, and how to respond in ways that are safer and more sustainable. Participants will build confidence in communication, boundary setting, and safety planning, while reducing isolation and self-blame. By the end of the course, participants will leave with practical tools for supportive in-home decluttering, clearer boundaries, realistic next steps, and a stronger sense of connection and perspective in their role as a support person.
