SUMMARY:Post-Secondary Transition - Returning to Campus - Charting Your Suc
 cess - Sep 8
DESCRIPTION:Transitioning to Post-Secondary Education (PSE) can be both exc
iting and terrifying considering the various outcomes this journey can off
er. You may have a great deal of confidence months before your first day o
f classes\, but after the first week you are questioning whether you have
made the best decision. Recognizing that there are limited opportunities i
n high school to consider what is necessary in preparing for this transiti
on and begin assessing the skills and strategies that may need to be learn
t and accessed to transition successfully to PSE.\n\nPreparing for entry/r
e-entry to in-person classroom learning will look differently at every ins
titution. What will the new normal look like? How do I create a safe physi
cal and mental space for optimal learning in an unfamiliar environment?\n\
nThrough a virtual webinar format participants who complete this 75 minute
course can expect to build additional skills and strategies that will imp
rove:\n• ways in creating meaningful connections within the campus commu
nity\n• responding to the stressors that come with balancing studies\, r
 elationships\, and employment\n• addressing self-advocacy\, self-compass
ion and empowering behaviour\n• learning and navigating campus mental he
alth and well-being services\n• responding to the challenges of being a
student (moving away from home\, finances\, academic pressures\, deadlines
\, increased freedoms\, more opportunity to use substances\, etc.)\n• id
entifying competing feelings and finding ways to process them in a safe pl
ace\n• understanding of the value of peer support\n\nParticipants can ex
pect to hear from current PSE students who have made this transition and w
ill share their experiences and in looking back would there be things that
they would have approached differently. You can expect to leave with a di
gital toolkit of practical resources and how self-care can change how you
treat yourself and others. Lastly\, a high level overview of evidence-base
d mental health and well-being literacy that addresses the impact of stigm
a\, challenges myths and the opportunities that exist to build greater res
iliency. Throughout this interactive webinar\, you will be invited to be c
urious and kind to yourself\, reducing the critical thinking that can crea
te barriers to being your best self.\n\nFacilitator: Stephen Sutherland\n\
nTo join this session you will need internet access and download the Teams
app or use the Teams software in Microsoft 365.\n\nTo register for the Po
